Toxicology Laboratory Facilities
The Aquatic Toxicology
Laboratory (ATL) and its associated facilities are designed and equipped for
carrying out modern toxicological research from the genetic and molecular
level through field and mesocosm assessments. The ATL is located on
the first floor of UNT's Environmental Education, Science, and
Technology (EESAT) building. The EESAT building houses offices and
research space for members of the Institute of Applied Sciences (IAS).
IAS members include representatives from the departments of biological
sciences, computer science, and geography.
The ATL is a 2500 sq. ft.
wetlab and contains cultures of various aquatic species including fish,
zooplankton, and algae. The lab is equipped for conducting
toxicological studies of environmental contaminants, both emerging and
historical, as well as studies investigating the effects of other
environmental stressors e.g. biotoxins, ultraviolet radiation, etc.
Space is utilized for projects conducted by UNT faculty and students as well
as their collaborators from across the country.
Researchers in the
aquatic toxicology laboratory have access to the UNT Water Research Field
Station, the Experimental Stream Facility, and a wetland experimental
station.
The EESAT building also
contains laboratories for molecular biology (thermocyclers, plate readers),
analytical chemistry (liquid and gas chromatographs, atomic absorbance), and
histopathology (microscopes, microtome, tissue processing).
